Police arrest father of teenage girl found dead in a well

Police on Monday morning arrested the father of a 16-year-old girl found dead in a well near the family house in Kusayfah on Sunday afternoon, hours after her father had reported her missing to police.

On Monday the father was brought by Negev Sub-district police to the Beersheba Magistrate's court, where his remand was extended until Thursday.

The body is still undergoing an autopsy to determine the cause of death, and initial exams point to drowning as cause of death for girl, police said.

After her father reported her missing on Sunday police launched an intensive search of the area near where she lived, and only found her body after draining the family's well.

Police have tasked the Negev branch of the YAMAR investigative unit with the case, and have vowed to invest whatever resources are needed to determine what led to the teenager's death.
