Police bust Israeli DMT importers who ran 'psychedelic purification rituals'

Police have busted a group of Israelis who imported the powerful hallucinogen DMT for use in “purifying rituals” attended by hundreds of people, the Coastal District said in a statement on Monday.

The statement was published ahead of the issuing of a pre-indictment motion against the suspects – who come from two families in central and northern Israel – who police say imported DMT in order to have “closed purification rituals” during which the hallucinogen was passed around in liquid form and drank by participants.

The ceremonies were organized solely by word of mouth, with participants paying hundreds of shekels to take part in each meeting. The suspects arrested by police allegedly ran the ceremonies the Coastal District statement read.

Police said the investigation was launched after they intercepted a package from Peru containing DMT.

This isn’t the first time police have busted an alleged DMT importer. In 2013, the son of a Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court judge was arrested on suspicion of importing two kilograms of DMT.
