Jerusalem Police closed the Temple Mount to Jewish visitors on Sunday morning in order to prevent "provocations" from religious activists.Police said the closure was a response to calls from activists to create a "provocation" on the Temple Mount on a religiously sensitive day; Sunday marks both Tisha Ba'av, the Jewish day of mourning for the destruction of the temple, and falls in the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.Right-wing activists called it "a shame that as the nation of Israel marks the destruction of the temple, entry was banned only for Jews," according to Israel Radio.
