Police finish case against Ramat Gan mayor, say evidence supports corruption allegations

Police have gathered evidence to support corruption allegations made against Ramat Gan Mayor Yisrael Zinger and two other city officials following a sprawling investigation that has stretched on for almost a year and a half, they announced Wednesday.

In the coming days they will hand the case over to state prosecutors who will decide how to proceed.

Zinger and five other suspects were arrested in December 2014 on suspicion of fraud, breach of trust, and money laundering, involving allegations that Zinger and his associates established a series of favors and kickbacks to assist people who helped his mayoral campaign ahead of the October 2013 elections.

On Wednesday they announced that they had finished the investigation and found evidence to support the claims made against Zinger as well as Amnon Botz, the deputy head of the municipality’s cultural department, and an unnamed official from the city inspections office.

The city’s former veteran mayor, Zvi Bar, left political life in 2013 after he was indicted on bribery and money laundering charges.
