Police fire officer who filmed Ethiopian beating

An Israel Police officer filmed attacking an IDF soldier of Ethiopian descent last month has been fired, Police Chief Yochanan Danino said Wednesday.
Danino said the officer’s termination will have no bearing on the Justice Ministry’s investigation against the officer’s actions.
Video of the incident sparked protests by Ethiopian-Israelis when it was made public, protests that reached a peak last Monday night, when a riot broke out in central Tel Aviv, during which dozens of protesters and police were injured and dozens arrested.
Earlier this week, protest leaders issued a series of demands, including that all those arrested during the protest be released without charge.
Danino dismissed the demand Wednesday, saying that those who attacked police will face charges.
He also said of the protests that "it has been portrayed as a problem with police when it’s about social problems,” adding that police in his opinion, showed restraint throughout the protests, until they were attacked by rioters.
