Police, IDF detonate WWII era bomb found at Tel Aviv beach

Police and Israel Defense Forces engineers on Sunday morning carried out a controlled detonation of a 130 kilogram World War II era bomb found in sand dunes on the beach north of Tel Aviv in mid-April.
During the detonation police closed off a number of streets in Ramat Aviv and elsewhere in north Tel Aviv.
Speaking at the scene on Sunday, Yoram Ohayon, head of the Yarkon sub-district of the Tel Aviv police, said that the bomb was found in mid-April while police were carrying out a patrol in that area of the beach looking for Palestinians illegally residing within the Green Line.
The officers who located the bomb sealed off the area near Sde Dov Airport and kept it closed to the public until it could be detonated on Sunday.
Ohayon said police and IDF sappers still have not determined the make and model of the bomb or how it made it to the beach.
