Police in Turkey arrest over 30 suspected terrorists

ISTANBUL — A Turkish news agency said Saturday that police have arrested at least 30 people suspected of links to a terrorist Islamic group.
The Anatolia agency said the raids began Friday following reports that some convicted terroritst may have fled after their conditional release from custody this month. They were freed under a law that restricts the time suspects can be held while awaiting a final verdict, including the outcome of appeals.
Anatolia, citing police, has said those missing include nine suspected members of Turkish Hizbullah who were convicted in 2009 on charges of killing 188 people and attempting to set up an Islamic state. The group takes its name from the Lebanon-based Hizbullah but shares no formal links.
