Police searching for drugs instead find turtles in northern Israel

Police on Friday were conducting an illegal drug search in the northern Arab-Israeli village of Bi’ina when they were surprised to find nine turtles and 12 turtle traps. The turtles, which are protected animals, were transferred to the Ramat Gan Safari where they will be most likely be adopted.
The Nature and Parks authority has opened an investigation against the suspect in possession of the turtles. In a statement the Police said they are “strongly opposed to animal abuse and act to bring perpetrators to justice.”
