Police officer seriously hurt in hit and run

A police officer was seriously wounded in a hit and run in Nazareth Sunday night, and is being treated at Rambam Hospital in Haifa.
Just before 7:30pm, the Northern District police announced that a police officer had been run over at the junction of highways 75 and 60 in Nazareth. According to police, an officer standing on the street waved at a vehicle driving towards Afula, and signaled the driver to pull over. The driver hit the officer at high speed, badly wounding him.
Police set up checkpoints in the area to catch the hit-and-run driver, and a little over an hour later announced that they had detained a suspect believed to be involved in the collision. At the moment they are still working to determine the circumstances of the incident,  police said.
