Police to tap new chief spokesperson from outside the organization

The Israel Police will appoint a new chief spokesperson from outside the organization, with Mairav Lapidot, the current spokesperson for the Finance Ministry set to take the post in the coming weeks.
Lapidot, 40, has worked for the past year and a half in the Finance Ministry, and previously worked as the spokesperson for the Israel Postal Service and the Federation of Local Authorities in Israel.
She will replace Ch. Superintendent Sigal Toledo, the acting head spokesperson, who also served as the personal spokesperson for former Commissioner Yochanan Danino.
Toledo is the latest in a series of senior police appointments to come from outside the organization, most notably current Commissioner Roni Alsheich, the former deputy head of the Shin Bet.
She will be drafted into the police with the rank of Commander in the coming weeks, police confirmed Monday.
Lapidot will be tasked with not only communicating the message of police to the media, but also of helping repair the organization's very troubled public image, which has been battered by a series of scandals in recent years.
