The head of the United Nations, Ban Ki-Moon, met today with President Reuven Rivlin in Jerusalem Monday, following Ban's comments that Operation Protective Edge was caused by Israel's "occupation."President Rivlin said "Opening the border will only be possible once Palestinian leadership and the international community finds a way to disarm Hamas and guarantee peace for Israeli civilians."Rivlin acknowledged that Israelis are not blind to the difficulties facing those in Gaza. "Us in Israel realize that there needs to be a solution to the situation in Gaza because 1.5 million Palestinians cannot continue living in the current conditions."Ban, in a surprisingly positive spin, modestly praised some of Israel's efforts. "Israel has taken the right steps to ease travel and commercial limitations. We hope to see more steps in this direction in the future."
