President's Office denies that Rivlin favors a pardon for Katsav

President Reuven Rivlin’s spokeswoman issued a statement  of clarification on Sunday to correct false impressions that Rivlin is in favor of giving clemency or a pardon to former president Moshe Katsav, who has almost completed serving five of a seven-year sentence for rape and other sexual offences.
According to the statement issued by Rivlin’s spokeswoman, Rivlin has not supported the idea of giving clemency to Katsav, and will discuss the possibility only if the matter comes up in an appeal directed to his office.
Even then, he will not make a decision without consulting with the Justice Ministry and taking all the relevant factors into account, as has been the case with all his predecessors when appeals for clemency or pardons were put to them.
