President’s Residence to get new entrance

The project, which was 10 years in the planning stage and then delayed by a further four years, is aimed at making security checks less humiliating and non-invasive except under special circumstances specified by security authorities.
The cost of changing the entrance is some NIS 1 million, but the idea is to allow all residents of Israel and visitors from abroad to enter in a respectful manner.
The reconstruction of the entrance will take approximately a year and will be executed by the engineering division of the Defense Ministry.
The work in progress will not affect the existing entrance, which will remain operational until the new entrance way is completed. The gate at the entrance, dating back to 1906, was designed by Boris Shatz, the founder of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design
