Prof. Aharon Shai was chosen as Tel Aviv University’s new rector at a meeting of its senate Wednesday night.Shai, 67, replaces Prof. Danny Leviatan, who is concluding a five-year term.Shai, who currently serves as vice rector, is a professor of history and was the Shoul N. Eisenberg professor for East Asian affairs. He has written books on China’s modern history, published in the UK, US, China and Israel.
