Progress on El Al labor troubles

The work-to-rule strike orchestrated by El Al’s pilots might end soon. Representatives of the pilots and management have been engaged in turbulent negotiations since last Tuesday, but flights were still canceled on a daily basis due to pilots’ refusal to fly round-trips. Sources close to El Al management told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday that “the management and the pilots reached several agreements and are close to finally ending the work dispute. We hope to be able to make a final and official announcement within the week.”

Yaniv Levi, spokesman of the Histadrut labor federation, confirmed the reports. “Understandings were reached on the way to achieving a full resolution. The parties will meet again tomorrow [Monday] accompanied by their legal teams in order to anchor these understandings in an agreement that will resolve the crisis in El Al,” Levi said in an official statement.

The negotiations were mediated by Histadrut Chairman Avi Nissenkorn and MK Eitan Cabel, chairman of the Knesset’s Economic Affairs Committee.
