PUA to stop power cuts for Holocaust survivors, life-support patients

Holocaust survivors and patients on life-support devices will no longer be disconnected from electricity, even if they are unable to pay their bills, the Public Utility Authority determined in a series of new policies published Monday. In addition, the PUA decided to extend the length of time a variety of other customers can pay their bills before being disconnected.
"The PUA has an obligation to allow electricity consumers to use this important and basic product and make the payment options easier," said PUA chairman Assaf Eilat. "Large-scale electricity disconnections are not an appropriate solution, and accordingly, the authority is publishing a bundle of guidelines that limits disconnections on one hand, while maintaining the ability to collect debts on the other hand."
