Rabbi Ovadia Yosef taken off respirator, able to speak with family members

After regaining consciousness on Wednesday, Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef continued to show signs that his health was improving on Thursday.
Doctors at Haddasah University Medical Center in Jerusalem's Ein Kerem, where Yosef has been hospitalized for a week-and-a-half, said Thursday that he had been taken off a respirator and was breathing on his own.
Yosef was responding to his surroundings on Thursday and was even able to speak with members of his family, according to doctors.
Despite the improvement, the 93-year-old Yosef remained in serious condition and was still in need of medical help for several ailments.
