Rachel Corrie appeal to Supreme Court to be heard May 21

The Rachel Corrie Foundation on Monday announced that the Corrie family's appeal to the Supreme Court to overturn a lower court's exoneration of the state from civil liability for her death will be held on May 21.

The Haifa District Court had decided the case in favor of the state in August 2012 and the appeal has been pending for sometime.

Rachel Corrie, was a 23-year-old American human rights activist who was killed on March 16, 2003 under disputed circumstances.

Her family alleges an Israeli military bulldozer purposely or negligently ran her over while nonviolently protesting demolition of Palestinian civilian homes in Rafah, Gaza.

The state and the Haifa court said, among other things, that there could be no liability because Corrie was in a declared war zone.
