Radio: Hundreds rescued after ferry collision in Philippines

MANILA - Hundreds of people were rescued after a ferry sank following a collision with a domestic cargo vessel off the central island of Cebu in the Philippines on Friday night, local radio reports said.
It was not clear whether there were casualties.
The ferry had left Cebu port for Manila with 692 crew and passengers when the collision occurred, said Rear Admiral Luis Tuazon. The cargo ship was helping to rescue passengers.
Hundreds of people were plucked from the waters by dozens of fishing boats that rushed to the area, the radio reports said. Many were brought to local hospitals. Coastguard authorities were investigating the accident.
