Ramon trials repeated on ‘Endeavor’ space shuttle

Two of the experiments carried out by Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon on the Columbia will be repeated on the space shuttle Endeavor’s next flight this week, Israel Radio reported Friday.
One experiment, focusing on mixing pro-biotic bacteria into the food given to astronauts on extended flights, will test the bacteria’s endurance and reproductive powers in weightless conditions; the second aims to determine why the disintegration of bone cells in weightless conditions is 10 times greater than on the earth’s surface, the report said. While Israel is paying for the preparation of the experiments, the US is funding the cost of taking them into space.
