Red alert sounded in Hof Ashkelon Region

A red alert sounded Tuesday night in the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council as rockets continue to be shot from Hamas-controlled Gaza into southern Israel. The city of Ashkelon has a population of over 137,000 not including the surrounding smaller communities of the Hof Ashkelon Regional Council.
Rockets have hit the area during past conflicts with Hamas which took over Gaza in 2006 following the 2005 Disengagement. School has been cancelled in the region for Tuesday as residents have approximately 15 - 20 seconds to report to bomb shelters upon hearing the red alert siren.
