Report: Around 70,000 Syrian refugees in Jordan

As the battles for Syrian urban centers continue, around 2,000 refugees are fleeing from Syria to Jordan every day, bringing the total number of refugees in the country to around 70,000 - some 20,000 more than official UN figures, The Jordan Times reported on Sunday.
Among the thousands that have fled to Jordan is the former Syrian Prime Minister, Riyad Hijab, who defected in early August 2012.
However, The Jordan Times also reported that the Assad regime is currently taking action to make defection and flight to Jordan more challenging; the government forces are destroying villages in southwest Syria, forcing the refugees to reroute their journey to Syria through the eastern desert region.
