Report: Former IDF Chief Gantz to lead new party in next elections

Former IDF Chief of Staff Benny Gantz is likely to run in the next elections leading an independent party, Channel 2 reported on Wednesday night.

Gantz, widely popular chief of staff who served between the years 2011 and 2015, was rumored to be of leaning towards the political arena for several months. It is believed that center-left politically oriented Gantz would gain great support for whichever party he joins, in light of his successful term in the IDF and popular statements during this time.

Gantz has been courted by center-left parties Yesh Atid and the Zionist Union, but has apparently decided to establish an independent party, Channel 2 said.
