Report: Hamas, Fatah agree to delay unity gov't formation

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal agreed to delay the formation of a unity Palestinian government, a social-activism group chair said Sunday according Palestinian Ma'an News Agency.
Khalil Assaf, the head of the Consortium of Independent Palestinians' West Bank branch, made the comments after a meeting of CIP representatives and Mashaal on Saturday.
He said that Hamas and Fatah leaders decided during meetings in Cairo this past week that "ending the division" between the rivaling political groups was "more important than forming a unity government," according to the report.
Abbas and Mashaal set a 2013 date for crafting the unified Palestinian government.
Assaf noted that two leaders were "serious about reconciliation."
