Report: Iran's religious leaders mulling alternative to ayatollah structure

Iranian religious leaders are considering an alternative to Iran's ayatollah structure, Al Arabiya's English Web site reported on Monday. The dramatic announcement comes in the wake of the bloody protests to the presidential elections, in which at least 13 people were killed, as well as the arrest and ensuing release of family members of former president Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani. According to the Al Arabiya report, Iranian religious clerks in Qom as well as members of the Assembly of Experts, headed by Rafsanjani, were behind the move.
