Rescuers recover 17 bodies, pick up 1,128 boat migrants

ROME -  Ships in the Mediterranean recovered 17 bodies on Thursday and pulled more than 1,100 migrants from overcrowded boats off the coast of Libya, Italy's coastguard said, marking another deadly day of attempted sea crossings.
Some 3,000 have died trying to reach the European Union by sea so far this year, according to the International Organization for Migration.
On Wednesday, 22 bodies were recovered from a rubber boat off the Libyan coast.
