Rights groups slam new West Bank deportation rules

The IDF has issued new orders that human rights groups fear could lead to the expulsion of thousands of Palestinians from the West Bank.
The orders were posted on the Web site of the military prosecutor and are to go into effect Tuesday. The military declined immediate comment Sunday.
Under the new rules, anyone caught living in the West Bank without an Israeli permit could face speedy expulsion or up to seven years in prison.
Ten Israeli human rights groups demanded the orders be rescinded. They say the rules are so vague that virtually all West Bankers are potentially at risk. The activists say they believe the initial targets would be the thousands of Gazans living in the West Bank and foreign spouses of West Bank residents.
