Knesset speaker Reuven Rivlin (Likud) described construction in the E-1 area of Jerusalem as "a national requirement, for security and strategically," following a meeting with the mayor of Ma'aleh Adumim on Sunday.On the heels of a government decision to approve construction in the contentious area, Rivlin explained that "a strategic concession of building in that area would cut off Ma'aleh Adumim from Jerusalem."
