Rouhani: Syria peace talks will no succeed without Iran

Talks on resolving the Syrian civil war set to start January 22 in Switzerland will fail if Damascus regime ally Iran does not participate, AFP cited Iranian President Hassan Rouhani as saying Thursday.
"Any trans-regional meeting that is not attended by influential players will be unable to solve the Syria crisis," Iranian media quoted Rouhani as telling Russian President Vladimir Putin by telephone ahead of a meeting between Moscow and Washington to discuss Tehran's possible attendance at the summit.
"Thus, the Geneva 2 conference has already failed without it even being started," he added.
