Report: Russia sends advanced antiship missiles to Syria

Russia sold advanced Yakhonts antiship cruise missiles to Syrian President Bashar Assad, the New York Times quoted American officials as saying on Thursday.

The newer version of the Yakhonts missiles are outfitted with an advanced radar that makes them more effective, the American officials said.

These missiles will allow Syria to thwart any attempt by international forces to reinforce Syrian rebels by imposing a naval embargo, the editor in chief of IHS Jane's International Defense Review told the New York Times.
