Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the appointment Thursday night of Sam Grundwerg, the director-general of the World Jewish Congress in Israel, as Israel's next consul-general in Los Angeles.The appointment of Grundwerg, who grew up in Miami and now lives in Efrat, is the second senior level political appointment Netanyahu has made in a matter of weeks. Last month he appointed Dani Dayan as Israel's next consul-general in New York, after Brazil failed to approve him as ambassador.Grundwerg has served as director general of the World Jewish Congress in Israel since 2010. An attorney, he practiced law for several years in Florida, and also worked in finance in Florida and in Israel for large corporations.Grundwerg will replace David Siegel, who has served as Israel's consul general in Los Angeles since 2011.
