Saudi FM: Assad has no role at all in power

Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir and visiting British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond held a joint press conference on the Syrian crisis on Wednesday in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
Al-Jubeir said Syrian President Bashar Assad has no role at all in power and that Saudi Arabia will continue to support moderate Syrian opposition.
"We have differences that remain with Russia and with Iran with regards to how and when Bashar Al-Assad leaves. So the view of our partners in this is that we should test the intentions of the Iranians and the Russians about their seriousness in arriving at a political solution in Syria which we all prefer," he said.
British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond agreed with his Saudi counterpart and said a deeper level of international discussions may be required to reach a resolution if the divergence on Assad's leadership continues.
Hammond is due to travel to the Persian Gulf states of the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Bahrain, before heading to Vienna on Friday for further talks on Syria's civil war.
