Saudi judo competitor drops out ahead of face-off with Israel

Joud Fahmy of Saudi Arabia failed to show up for her bout against Christianne Legentil of Mauritius in the first round of the women's judo under-52kg contest at the Rio Olympics, in an apparent attempt to avoid facing Israel's Gili Cohen in the second round.
Cohen, who received a bye into the second round, was knocked out by Legentil in the last 16 competitors.
Cohen entered her first Olympics on the back of an excellent season. She scaled the podium in three different Grand Prix events while taking a gold medal at the Grand Slam competition in Baku, Azerbaijan in May. That saw her climb into the top 10 in the world rankings.
