Saudis behead local man for raping a boy

Authorities in Saudi Arabia beheaded a citizen convicted of kidnapping and raping a 5-year-old boy, Saudi Arabia's Interior Ministry announced on Thursday. According to a ministry statement, Saud bin Awad was beheaded in the capital Riyadh. Saudi Arabia follows a strict interpretation of Islam under which people convicted of murder, drug trafficking, rape and armed robbery can be executed - usually with a sword. According to an Associated Press count, the latest execution brought the number of beheadings in the kingdom so far this year to 44. Last year, a total of 102 people were beheaded.
