Saudis deny rumors that would allow direct flights from Israel for Haj

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) denied media reports that its airports would handle direct flights from Israel carrying Israeli Muslims for the haj this October.

GACA spokesman Khaled Al-Khaibari said there would be no direct flights from “occupied Palestine” to Saudi airports for the haj, the Arab News website reported on Tuesday.

Israeli Muslims are able to go through Egyptian or Jordanian airports, Al-Khaibari said, adding that the other option would be for the pilgrims to travel by ground transport through Jordan.

However, the original Israeli media report by Haaretz did not mention direct flights, but only stated that Israeli Muslims would now be able to fly in organized groups to Amman, Jordan and then connect to a flight to the Saudi city of Jeddah, instead of making the trip by bus.
