Nabil Abu Rudaineh, a spokesman for PA President Mahmoud Abbas, announced on Wednesday night that the Palestinians rejected Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's offer to freeze settlement construction because it did not include Jerusalem. Chief PA negotiator Saeb Erekat also dismissed Netanyahu's plan as fraudulent, later urging the US to obligate Israel to freeze all construction activity completely so that peace talks may resume. Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Dahlan stated that the prime minister's initiative "proves once again that Israel is interested not in peace, but in creating facts on the ground." "Overlooking ongoing construction in Jerusalem will put the peace process in jeopardy," he was quoted by Israel Radio as saying.
