Service for Schalit to be held at Kotel on night of his 23rd birthday

Habonim Dror, the youth movement which has been the driving force behind the popular campaign for Gilad Schalit's return, has organized a global prayer for the captured IDF soldier's safe return, to take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday night. The mass prayer will focus on a communal service at the Western Wall, timed to coincide with the soldier's 23rd birthday according to the Hebrew calendar. Habonim have joined forces with ex-chief rabbi of Israel and current Tel Aviv Chief Rabbi, Yisrael Meir Lau, by holding a prayer ceremony at Judaism's holiest site. "We are calling on all Jews - one people, one heart -to pray on behalf of our brother Gilad's well being and for his safe return," read a press release from the youth movement. Rabbi Lau has penned a special prayer for the service, beseeching God to "redeem him [Schalit] from his captivity and return him in the immediate future."
