Shaked doubles lawyer apprenticeship period from 1 to 2 years

Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked late Tuesday night announced she was doubling the period in which lawyers must work as an apprentice from one year to two years.
Shaked said she hoped that this would weed out some less committed legal candidates both to reduce the spiking number of lawyers, but also to better train and be more sure about the commitment about those lawyers who complete the entire process.
There was also a possibility that the first apprenticeship year could overlap with legal studies, such that the whole process of law studies plus apprenticeship would be five years, not necessarily longer total than the whole process now.
