Shimon Peres mourns composer Nachum Heiman

Former President Shimon Peres on Wednesday evening issued a statement in tribute to composer and Israel Prize laureate Nahum Heiman who died earlier in the day. Heiman was best known for his composition ‘Like a Wild Flower’ which his daughter, singer Si Heiman includes in most of her performances.

“We’ve lost a superbly creative person, who left us with his life achievement - Hebrew songs and Israeli melodies,” said Peres.

Heiman, 82, spent almost twenty years of his life collecting compositions by his contemporaries and those who came before him to create a proper archive of Hebrew song and music.

Peres praised Heiman for his ability to reflect Israel’s pioneering spirit in his compositions, and said that his contribution to Israeli culture was inestimable.

Heiman went through many tribulations over the years, but never lost the joy of life, said Peres, adding that it was difficult to part from him.
