Shin Bet female staffers complain of harassment

Two senior Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) women officers complained in April that their supervisor – one of the top officials in the security agency – had sexually harassed them, it was revealed on Monday.

The harassment reportedly included touching the women in intimate places, rubbing them and making improper verbal comments. The actions started in 2013 and continued through to this year.

The complaints were turned over to the Civil Service disciplinary division for investigation.

The Shin Bet responded to the report noting that when it received the complaints in April, it immediately turned them over to the disciplinary division, which then appointed an investigator.

The agency said that once the file was transferred, it has had no involvement with the case, to ensure there would be no possibility of it placing any pressure on the investigators.

The Shin Bet said that it “views maintaining proper norms of behavior for managers” – both senior and junior – as well as those under them, as an issue of “paramount importance.”

It added that if the investigation finds validity in the complaints, it will take appropriate disciplinary action, including file criminal charges.
