Sky Shield aviation defense system to be integrated in El Al planes
By YAAKOV KATZ
Transportation Minister Yisrael Katz will place an official order on Thursday to purchase the Israeli Sky Shield aviation defense system against shoulder-fired missiles.
The system was developed by Elbit Systems and was accelerated after an attempt in 2002 to shoot down an Israeli passenger plane in Kenya.
The system provides protection for aircraft during takeoff and landing and will be installed on some El Al planes.
