Social workers to strike in protest of violent attacks by clients

Social workers plan to strike on Sunday to protest a spate of violent attacks by clients, the Union of Social Workers announced over the weekend. The strike, which is set to begin at 8 a.m. throughout the country, will last for three hours, paralyzing services to the elderly, disabled, children and others who need additional assistance from the state. Sunday's sanctions come almost a year after social workers closed down services to protest the state's failure to protect them from such clients. After last year's action, promises were made by the Welfare and Social Services Ministry to improve protection afforded to social workers, who often deal with very sensitive issues affecting families. While some welfare branches were equipped with security mechanisms, some offices still remain vulnerable.
