Some 600 protesters gather in TA square over social justice

Hundreds of activists rallied in Tel Aviv's central Rabin Square on Saturday in an attempt to reinvigorate last year's mass social justice movement, of which the largest demonstration attracted nearly half a million people.

Police estimated that some 600 protesters had arrived at the square, which sits adjacent to the Tel Aviv municipality building, and said they expected thousands more to arrive, according to Channel 2 news.

Several demonstrations were scheduled to take place in Tel Aviv and in cities across the country on Saturday evening, with the Tel Aviv marches meant to converge in Rabin Square.

Unlike the mass protests of summer 2011, the demonstration which took place on a temperate Tel Aviv evening lacked a central stage, with activists from several social groups meeting to discuss issues ranging from the cost of living in Israel, to financial concentration in the upper echelons of the nation's business community.
