The Southern District Attorney’s Office on Thursday filed an indictment against Retuva Bat Mahmoud Al-quran with the Beersheba District Court for the alleged murder of her 20-month-old son when she threw him down a well because of a physiological defect.
According to the indictment, al-Quran’s son, a twin (and whose name is under gag order since he was a minor), developed a defect three months after he was born at which point she was overheard saying that he was not her son, that someone had switched the babies and that she viewed her son as being dead already.
On July 30 around 8:30 a.m., al-Quran allegedly decided to murder her son and took him to a well of 3.5 meters in depth which was 300 meters from her house.
Next, noted the indictment, al-Quran threw her son down the well and immediately returned to her house where she started screaming that she could not find him.
The family called the police, fire department and paramedics to the area who searched unsuccessfully for the baby for hours, while al-Quran allegedly revealed nothing about his whereabouts.
At around 2:00 p.m., the fire department found her son’s dead body at the bottom of the well after draining the water.
