Suicide bombing in Iraq kills 30 police recruits

BAGHDAD — Iraqi officials say at least 30 people have been killed and 50 wounded in a suicide bombing outside a police station where recruits had gathered to apply for jobs.
A policeman in Tikrit said the bomber joined a crowd of about 100 recruits outside the station on the outskirts of the city, located some 80 miles (130 kilometers) north of Baghdad.
At least two of the dead were police officers, according to the policeman. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.
The casualties were confirmed by Dr. Anas Abdul Khaliq of Tikrit hospital.
Insurgents have long found recruitment centers a favorite target.
