Supporters of Yemen President Hadi clash with rebels in contested city of Taiz

Troops loyal to President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi battled Iran-backed Houthi militias on opposing hilltops overlooking Yemen's Taiz Thursday as the two warring sides fight for control of the strategic city.

"We are on the outskirts of the Houthi frontlines and they are trying to penetrate our position but we will deflect their advances with our full power and courage and we will rid Taiz of this catastrophic cancer that has been inflicted on Yemen," said pro-Hadi fighter Razaz Taher.

"We will not give up and we will not be shaken until the last Houthi is out of Taiz and we will fight to the last drop of blood and we will not hesitate in our sacrifices," he said.

Taiz, Yemen's third-largest city, has been the site of fierce clashes and intensified air strikes by Saudi-led coalition forces as Hadi's troops backed by their Gulf allies try to defeat Houthi militias that continue to maintain a strong presence in the city.
