Supreme Court justice: No propaganda on city websites

Candidates in the October 22 municipal elections, including incumbent mayors, cannot use city websites or municipal Facebook pages to promote their campaigns, the head of the Central Elections Committee, Supreme Court Justice Salim Jubran, ruled on Thursday.
Jubran made the ruling following a dispute between candidates in Hod Hasharon. “Municipal websites and Facebook pages are public resources, so they cannot be used for political propaganda,” he wrote in the ruling.
“They are used for distributing important information to residents and interaction between elected officials and their constituents. Allowing them to become a forum for political fights would result in inequality between candidates, especially ahead of elections.”
