Survivors can be repaid for ambulances

Holocaust survivors who need ambulances not covered by the basket of health services can get the money reimbursed by a fund established by Magen David Adom five years ago. There are tens of thousands of survivors who need ambulance services for non-emergencies not involving hospitalization but who can’t afford it. Suffering from physical, emotional or economic problems, they can get help from the fund.
MDA said on Wednesday that every year, it receives complaints from survivors whose requests for reimbursement by their health funds, private insurance companies or the National Insurance Institute for ambulance services have been turned down. MDA, which is required by law to charge for all its services, decided to find a creative solution to the survivors’ problem and found donors for the project. They are qualified for reimbursement if they have applied for all benefits from the authorities according to defined criteria.
