Syria: Peace talks with Israel must be productive

Syria's foreign minister said his country will not resume peace talks with Israel unless they are productive and secure the return of territory it deems occupied by the Jewish state. Walid al-Moallem added during a news conference at the end of the three-day meeting of the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference Monday that Syria will not "return to unproductive talks." Israel and Syria conducted indirect peace negotiations through Turkish mediators last year. But Syria suspended them in December over Israel's Gaza war. Al-Moallem's comments came two days after Syrian President Bashar Assad said Israel poses the "greatest obstacle" to Mideast peace.
