Syria says attempts at safe zones without Damascus involvement 'violation'

BEIRUT - The Syrian government said on Monday that any attempt to create safe zones for refugees and the displaced without coordinating with Damascus would be an "unsafe action" that violated Syria's sovereignty, state news agency SANA reported.
Syria's foreign ministry and the United Nations refugee agency had agreed on the issue during a meeting in Damascus, SANA said.
US President Donald Trump and Saudi Arabia's King Salman agreed in a phone call on Sunday to support safe zones in Syria and Yemen, the White House said.
